I had a 1971 CJ5 back between 74 and 84 and always wanted another one. I cam across this one which was in poor shape, but did have a good body and frame and decided to restore it. Seeing how the original CJ's are disappearing, I decided I wanted to keep it as original as possible with minimal mods.
I did a frame off and found out like anyone who has done a project like this that there was more to rebuild than I had thought. It's a 1979 CJ5 and has all the original equipment except for a replacement head from a 83 258 engine and a couple of items such as the air cleaner which I had to search for the original type for some time. I did install a 3 row radiator for the Texas heat. It has power steering, power brakes, a 4.2L 258 115hp engine, the dana30 front, AMC20 rear end, T18A 4 speed w/granny gear and the Spicer20 transfer case, 10.5"x15" wheels, front disc brakes, Warn front lock hubs. It does have a 2.5" lift and heavy springs.
I enjoyed the months of working on this project and though my intentions were to sell it and do another, I'm having a hard time separating from it. Actually I'm still working on it and need the seats done and a soft top. There's no end to it.
