About my Explorer
It started out as an Explorer XL, manual everything, including hubs, t-case and tranny.
After a few years of various modding and more than a few thousand dollars later it sports a set of axles scavenged from a 1978 F-150. I rebuilt the D44 and 9 inch, added 5.13 gears and full carrier Detroit lockers. To mount the D44 I gutted the TTB d35, lenghtened the F-150 radius arms, custom built a bracket to connect them to and hold the tranny, and used a set of early Bronco 5.5inch lift coils, then built all the steering componentry, with a knuckle over modification used by full-size Bronco owners. The 9 inch was easier to install by mounting it under the springs which are a set of super flexy Old man Emu 2 inch lift springs originally designed for Explorers.
End result is aproximately 13 inches of suspension lift over stock, plus a two inch body lift, which helped with the fabrication process.
Top that off with Rancho adjustable shocks, some front Jounce shocks from Light Racing, 35x12.5 Goodyear Wranglers on Rockcrawler rims and she`s ready to take a beating.
